Meet your Mentors

Ken and Rachael Wick, founders of Higher Point Investing, both have purchased and managed rental property since 2004. The duo are former teachers, each with Master’s degrees in Educational Technology, and have a combined 55 years of service in education. Higher Point Investing was launched in 2019 after the pair engaged in multifamily acquisition training with a national educational company. Since then, they have worked with various individual partners and groups to coordinate the purchase, management, and disposition of multifamily assets.

Along with partners, they have $23 million in assets under management in 272 units across Iowa, Minnesota, and Nevada, consisting of value-add C Class properties. Their syndication and operational experience includes everything from recruiting investors through a sound business plan, property purchase, financial oversight, repositioning, stabilizing operations, increasing value, and exit of a property.
 
Central to the Wick’s investment strategy is finding ways to implement positive social impact in the communities they invest in. In partnership with World Vision, they sponsor children around the world and manage a Donor Advised Fund through the National Christian Foundation to give back to charities local to the properties they manage.
 
The Wick’s look forward to teaching and sharing with new potential partners through the Weekend Intensive! God is the CEO of their business and they work to be His hands and feet to help with workforce housing. To achieve this goal, they desire to positively impact people by following the example and will of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Weekend Intensive Objectives

Hands on: Visit large multifamily properties to help learn how to evaluate and analyze on site.

Market tour: Understand key factors on how to choose a market.

Underwriting: Learn how to underwrite a large multifamily property to be attractive to passive investors, meet investor return expectations and purchase the property at the right price.

Hosts: Ken and Rachael Wick of Earn As You Learn Multifamily and Higher Point Investing. Currently 272 units under management and success bringing in new LP’s and GP’s into multifamily deals.

Tours and Underwriting

 Thursday, February 22nd evening: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm 

Reception at King’s Head Room in Ankeny, IA, next to Magee’s Irish Pub with free appetizers and drinks at a restaurant within walking distance from the Residence Inn in Ankeny, Iowa. 

Networking – Meet local syndicators as well as partners and investors in our current deals.

 Friday, February 23rd 

9:00-12:30 pm Tour of large multifamily properties & Des Moines market by bus 

12:30 pm – 1:30 pm – Lunch on your own (many within walking distance of the Residence Inn)

1:30 pm – 5:00 pm – Underwriting Training (bring your laptop with Excel ready to go)

 (Location: Residence Inn by Marriott in Ankeny Conference Room)

Coffee and water provided

5:00 pm – ? – Dinner at local restaurant on your own

Saturday, February 24th  

9:00 am – 12:30 pm – Underwriting Training in Conference room

12:30 pm – 1:30 pm – Lunch on your own

1:30 – 5:00 pm – Underwriting Training in Conference room

5:00 pm – Adjourn

Limited to 20 participants – deadline is February 9th.
